All about your Car
Changing the address in your vehicle registration
Moving to Dortmund, you have to register your car at the municipal office
and to change your address in the vehicle document of your car. Therefore
you just need your ID with your new address and the registration document.
You will have to pay a charge of presently 10,70 €.
Car-registration
If your car is already registered or you want to register a new car,
you will need the following documents:
for a registered car:
- registration document of the car ('Fahrzeugbrief')
- vehicle documents ('Fahrzeugschein')
- licence plate number
- proof of insurance ('Versicherungsdoppelkarte')
- exhaust check ('AU-Bescheinigung')
- ID (no copies)
- for enterprises: notification about the business application or an
extract from the register of companies
- current report on a general car inspection, not older than two years
('Hauptuntersuchungsbericht, TÜV ')
car is signed off:
- registration document of the car ('Fahrzeugbrief')
- notification about signing off the car ('Abmeldebescheinigung')
- proof of insurance ('Versicherungsdoppelkarte')
- exhaust check ('AU-Bescheinigung')
- licence plate number
- ID (no copies)
- for enterprises: notification about the business application or an
extract from the register of companies
- report about a general car inspection ('Hauptuntersuchungsbericht,
TÜV ')
registration of a new car:
- registration document of the car ('Fahrzeugbrief')
- proof of insurance ('Versicherungsdoppelkarte')
- ID (no copies)
Foreign Driving Licences
Foreign driving licences are valid for the first 6 months of your stay
in Germany. Afterwards, they have to be transferred into a german driving
licence. This transfer is possible within a period of three years at maximum.
Exception: driving licences from EU-countries
must not be transferred and are valid for unlimited time.
You are in need of the following documents:
- Your valid foreign driving licence
- a translatio done by an approved translator
- ID and residence registration
- a visual test
- test about first aid knowledge
- a photo
Depending on your country of origin, you have to undergo a theoretical
and practical driving licence test. You can take a look at the conditions
